Digital Journal Entry

Hello world!

I’m trying to stay committed to regularly updating this diary/journal thing, but it’s just hard. My laptop is usually stuffed down the back pocket of my big rucksack so it’s just a nuisance to actually get. I will use this time to explain what I’ve got and where everything goes while I travel. Hopefully a criminal doesn’t read this. I just think it could be helpful for people who want to travel over longer periods of time, like several months.

I think it’s important to have two bags; a big one and a small one. The big one on the back should just contain clothes, because clothes take up a lot of space. The small bag on the front, in my opinion, should just be valuables. I like it being on the front because I can see it and nothing can get robbed, whereas the big bag is just cheap clothes so I’m not as worried. My small bag has all my wires and adaptors, it has my toiletries bag and then the insanely important stuff like my wallet and my passport. All that is right under my nose, which is good. No one is stealing that.

Circling back to my laptop; it goes in my big back just for weight distribution. Loads of clothes aren’t that heavy, and my front bag also has the valuable stuff that is my book and my Steam Deck (I forgot to mention). If my laptop went into my front bag, then it’d just make me fall forwards onto my face. I will say this though, is that even though I’ve not been on my laptop as much as I normally am, I have been reading and using my Steam Deck a lot. It’s fun! Reading is fun here because there’s so many beautiful and peaceful spots to do it. I’m about 80 pages into Dune, which is one of my favourite sci-fi stories ever but I’ve never actually read the original book. It’s good so far! I also bought Mixtape on my Steam Deck, which is a short, coming-of-age game centered around a girl’s playlist for her final night in her home town. I found it genuinely brilliant. It was gorgeous to look at, it was fun when it came to gameplay, and it told such a beautiful, nuanced story of adolescence. It was also weirdly relevant. This girl getting told she’s hurting everyone by moving away. It felt like a weirdly timed game. Maybe that’s why it resonated with me so much. Anyway.

I just arrived in Pattaya, after a week in Bangkok. I’m still having a good time, and life is good. My money is still decently fine, because I’m continuing to be cautious with it. That being said, I have been silly enough over the past week to the point where I’m not ruining my own holiday. That’s my update today I think. It was part travel tip and part recommendation for some art I’m consuming. That sounds cringe doesn’t it? Oh well.
